Whilst being new to coaching, I have been competing in triathlons for over 10 years ranging from Junior Elite around Australia to ITU Age Group Championships around the world. I have since made the step to racing Half Ironman’s and most recently the 70.3 World Championships on the Sunshine Coast. I have been guided by multiple coaches since 2005 and have seen not only my own goals achieved, but also many other committed athletes achieving their goals.
Triathlon has been a huge part of my life and I have no doubt it will remain a passion of mine in the future. I have been lucky enough to travel around Australia and parts of the world, racing in both London and Auckland. I believe one of the BEST things about triathlon is that you can race and travel internationally with the sport. I have also had the pleasure of watching what they call ‘the best triathlon in the world’ being Challenge Roth. It’s certainly on my bucket list to compete in.
I had lost some motivation with triathlon a few years back and it wasn’t until I did my first 70.3 and won my age group that I thought maybe this was the distance for me and found my passion for the sport again. Surprisingly the step up from Olympic Distance to Half Ironman wasn’t as hard as most think. With the guidance of Richard Thompson from T:Zero Multisport, making the start line for worlds was made a lot easier by having a flexible and personalised program, open to change to fit around my studies, work and social life. The ongoing communication enabled us to work together and formulate a plan leading into each race with different targets.
I have learnt many valuable lessons throughout the past 10 years of triathlon. I love standing on the sideline as much as I love being on the start line. To have a group of athletes that I can help achieve their goals whilst negotiating training, family and work life is a vision of mine. I am a huge believer in being available for your athletes when they need it, whether it’s for a change of the program due to commitments or just for a chat and I’m excited to be moving forwards with T:Zero.
