6 Race Week Tips from the T:Zero Coaching Team

  1. Visualisation of the perfect race. Coach David Dellow suggests taking some time and visualising the race from start to finish, and things going awesome!
  2. Save the racing for race day. “Athletes always feel like they aren't doing enough, or going fast enough when we are trying to freshen them up to be ready to go at the start line.” Coach Cheyne Murphy
  3. Coach Lise Spink says “Be grateful for the opportunity to do what you love. My last message to my athletes before they race is…’Happy athletes are fast athletes… have fun out there.’”
  4. Nothing new on race week. Coach Monique Ralph with a great reminder to stick to what we know and avoid last minute shiny new things. 
  5. Coach Scotty Farrell thinks being organised well in advance of race day (ideally weeks or at the latest, early in race week) is key to allowing the athlete to enjoy the experience, void of running around doing last minute stuff.
  6. As Coach Rich mentions in this month’s blog - control the controllables. We have absolutely no control over anyone or anything else but ourselves and our gear. Comparison is the thief of performance.
